15 July 2008: From the frying pan into the fire. That crushingly explains the Left's support withdrawal and the Samajwadi Party's bear hug of the tottering Manmohan Singh government. After Amar Singh pressured the government to impose windfall tax on Mukesh Ambani's oil refinery, the big man airdashed into town yesterday. In one day of back-to-back appointments, India's richest man and an Ambani and all that that means met the PM, his principal secretary and cabinet secretary, and his buddy, the oil minister, Murli Deora, and his secretary, M.R.Srinivasan. The last two, in a letter to the PM, published today by The Economic Times, are accused by Amar Singh of showing "selective favouritism" to Mukesh.
