9 July 2008: After the Left's withdrawal of support to the Manmohan Singh government, most commentators would be writing Prakash Karat's political obituary. To the contrary, the CPI-M general secretary has upstaged every other politician on the Indo-US nuclear deal, successfully cast the prime minister as a dodger and a bit of a liar, and the Congress party must beware that Karat will indubitably determine political fortunes in the coming general elections.
