7 May 2010: It is not readily apparent that the Manmohan Singh government is concerned that it is unprecedentedly and damagingly politicizing relations with the United States. Some manner of understanding had been reached between the government and the opposition (following public assurances from the PM, for what they were worth) that the Nuclear Liability Bill would be sent to a parliamentary select committee for vetting and for reconciling political differences. But this understanding has been destroyed with the government defiantly tabling the Bill today in Parliament with the opposition BJP and the Left expectedly walking out in protest.
