7 July 2010: Only at considerable peril to its political future will the Congress party and its leadership remain in denial about the widespread success of the Bharat bandh called by a united opposition two days ago. To no avail Congress party managers hoped to divide the opposition and fail the bandh by castigating the "secular" Left for coming together with the "communal" BJP. Notwithstanding that two wrongs don't make a right, if the Congress party's own record is examined in the seventies and eighties, in Meerut, Maliana, Bhagalpur and elsewhere (places trawled by this writer as a reporter), and in the opening of the locks on the "Babri Masjid" and in the performance of shilanyas on disputed land during the Rajiv Gandhi government, it will have no "secular" face to show anymore.
