6 October 2010: On one hand, president Barack Obama says that the Afghanistan war is on track. This presumably means that the US army will be able to withdraw as victoriously as possible close to the July 2011 deadline he has set. On the other hand, Pakistan's blockade of vital supplies to US troops in Afghanistan has entered the seventh day today, highlighting the logistic vulnerabilities that could cripple the American war effort. To this writer's mind, the war in Afghanistan has entered a critical make-or-break stage, and the option that the US seriously must consider as a prelude to withdrawal is to partition Afghanistan which may likely consequently break up Pakistan as well.
