17 May 2010: There has been some churning in India that its unique status outside the NPT has been questioned at the NPT review conference by Iran, etc (and, yesterday, by Turki al-Faisal, the ex-Saudi intelligence chief), and that, in the questioning, the Indo-US nuclear deal has embarrassingly been dragged in. The solution to this, it has been suggested in some quarters, is that since India has been accepted by the NSG as a nuclear power, it should have no hesitation to join the NPT. The argument is that its traditional accusation of a discriminatory NPT no longer holds good in view of the NSG recognition, and that no harm is done in joining the Treaty.
