5 December 2008: In this situation of a tense face-off with Pakistan over the terrorism in Bombay, which may lead to military action, and equally which may not, it is absolutely essential that India presents a united face, and that the Indian response is solely, responsibly and with restraint conveyed to the opposite side by the government. In these early days of pursuing coercive diplomacy against Pakistan to surrender the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist leaders undeniably implicated in the Bombay terrorism, chinks have shown up in the unified Indian response, which is being exploited by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Corrective action is immediately required both on the part of government and on the part of political parties that have publicly announced a different approach to engaging Pakistan.
