12 July 2010: Before tongues start wagging about the forthright comments of the army chief, General V.K.Singh, about the current situation in Kashmir, the issue must be seen in perspective. What General Singh has said is not exactly new. He says that the local administration has "frittered away the opportunities" created by the army over the last two years. Indeed, that position could hold true for the last fifteen years since the army enabled a turnaround to permit holding general and assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
